Fishermen will no doubt be impressed by the
selection and variety of species available within the range of our
aircraft. Throughout the season there are five distinct runs of salmon;
King (Chinook) salmon in June, Chum (Arctic Kita or Dog) salmon in
June/July, Red (Sockeye) salmon in early July, Pink salmon in July, and
Silver (Coho) salmon in late July/early August.
In addition to the salmon runs, several additional species are
available to test your fishing skills. The best season for Northern Pike
is in June although they can be caught just about any time of year. Many
lakes, rivers, and sloughs within a half hour flight from Aniak will yield
truly huge Northern Pike. The spirited Sheefish (freshwater Tarpon), tasty
24" Rainbow Trout, and the smaller but plentiful Grayling, Dolly Varden,
and Arctic Char populate the rivers through the Aniak region.
We offer convenient access to the Holitna and Hoholitna Rivers , both
of which offer many additional opportunities to fish salmon, sheefish, and
rainbows.
Inland Aviation also can connect you with one of several lodges like Aniak River Lodge or
independent guides specializing in one or more of these species. We can
set up a customized trip to fish a variety of species in several different
types of fishing environments.
We recommend the Kuskokwim Mountains, Taylor
Mountains, and the Wood/Tikchik Lakes region for caribou hunts. As the
herds tend to move around a good bit, we have several mountain strips and
small lakes available to get you in close to the animals.
Nearly all our hunters this past season had a successful hunt and many
took trophy size racks home. Gemuk Lake, Aniak Lake, and North Fork Lake
all resulted in successful hunts.
If you would like a guide for a portion of your hunt we service several
Master guides who would be happy to fit you in to their schedules or drop
you off in their favorite hunting spots.
Moose are plentiful on the Innoko and Iditarod
Rivers to the north and on the Holitna and Hoholitna Rivers to the east.
Numerous small sloughs, slow rivers, and large meadows provide plentiful
vegetation and offer the best of opportunities to take very large moose
and black bear.
Since these areas are accessible only by floatplane or an extended boat
trip there are relatively few moose taken from this region and populations
are very robust.
Combination Hunts Moose tend to concentrate at the lower more heavily vegetated
elevations while just a short hike up in elevation, the terrain is very
open and perfect for grazing caribou.
Packing a small inflatable raft and binoculars will allow you to scout
the shoreline and allow you to cover a large area with little effort.
Spring Black Bear Hunts
The black bear to the north of Aniak along the
Innoko River can grow to 7 feet or more. Between mid-May and Early June is
a prime season to take one of these magnificent animals. The fur is in
good shape and the bears are up and about. Weather is typically excellent
at this time of year and the float plane access is superb. A small
inflatable can allow you to explore a vast area from one base camp and
the daylight never seems to end.

Float Trips Another option for those desiring a moose/caribou
hunt is to float one of the several local rivers for a week to ten days
down to one of several pickup points. Numerous opportunities for taking
both species are present and the river offers some truly beautiful scenery
(even by Alaskan standards) over the course of a week to ten day float. In
addition, the fishing is really good. Care must be taken on a hunt of this
nature to protect meat from spoilage, especially if animals are taken
early on in the trip.
Boat/Raft Rental We can rent you a 14' raft with rowing frame and
dry box or a 12' "zodiac type" inflatable boat with a 15 hp motor. All
boats are new withing the last year and both rafts and boats are in
excellent condition and come with a complete set of spare parts. These are
super for scouting out rivers, lakes and backwater sloughs in search of
trophy moose or monster pike and king salmon.
